Catholic Choral Symposium in Canada

I have been hoping readers will send me information about their own events, and yesterday I received a lovely message about a choral and organ training seminar in Canada. It is sponsored by the SSPX but seems to aimed at everyone who loves and sings at the Traditional Latin Mass.

The reader writes:

The event promises to be at quite a good level; Dr. Andrew Childs, of many places including Yale School of Voice and Opera, is at the helm; guest instructors notably includeย Howard Dyck, beloved radio host of CBCย Saturday Afternoon at the Operaย andย Choral Consortย (now retired), andย Daniel Taylor, Order of Canada, renowned countertenor and first guest conductor of Britain’s Tallis Scholars, among others. The TLM is offered daily.ย

Our goal is to promote a culture of excellence in sacred music at traditional Catholic Mass centres, and to provide social and moral support for church musicians who are often, in TLM settings, volunteers.

New Hamburg is in southwestern Ontario, a 22-minute drive from Kitchener and about an hour from Toronto. (Three hours from the Big Smoke by public transport.) Ontario is warm and beautiful in July; it makes me homesick just thinking about it. If you discern a call to go, even from depths of the UK, Air Transat usually has the cheapest flights.
