I have left work, and it is time to collect up all the crockery and wineglasses, to buy the last supplies, and to work out which shoes to wear tomorrow..
25 hours to go!
Everyone, now is the time to buy your tickets! If a bank transfer is beyond your ken, I will take cash. However, once tomorrow arrives I will not have time for standing around typing sort codes and account numbers into phones.That time will most definitely be over. Indeed, one of the points to this dance is to rescue us all from the phones for a few hours.
Right! A few last minute thoughts:
- Introductions. These are extremely easy with a script. Here is the script: “Hello, my name is CHRISTIAN NAME–FAMILY NAME.” “Hi! I’m CHRISTIAN NAME- FAMILY NAME.” “Nice to meet you, CHRISTIAN NAME! May I reserve a dance?” Always say your family name, especially when surrounded by other people of your generation probably also named Jennifer or Sophia or Mark or Jacob. Alternatively, you could ask a friend to make the introductions, and then chime in with “Nice to meet you! May I reserve a dance?”
- Dress code. “Black Tie Optional” is code for “Just do your best.” If your best is a dark blue suit and tie, wear that. No problem. National Dress can mean Scottish national dress or the national dress of the country from which you hail. Ladies are advised to do the best we can by way of finding a dress that is both pretty and modest. If in despair–as I was this morning when I suddenly remembered I meant to sew in a modesty panel and now have no time—a tartan sash is both National Dressy and salvific.
- Clean-up. If you have to run for the last train to Dundee, you have to run. I understand. But otherwise, we will very much need people in the kitchen at 11 PM to wash, dry and pack the dishes. This time, such generosity is even more important than ever, for my knees are preventing me from being the Hostess-of-All-Work I was born to be. Thank you in advance!
